Cerence Emergency Vehicle Detection (EVD), already deployed in production vehicles today, gives ADAS and autonomous driving systems an additional sense: the ability to detect and localize more than 1,500 emergency sirens across nearly 50 countries, before the vehicle comes into view. Using existing vehicle microphones and AI trained to distinguish sirens from traffic, road noise, music, and other sounds, EVD can identify approaching emergency vehicles from more than 300 meters away with interior microphones and beyond 800 meters when paired with exterior microphones. All of this adds up to more time to react, increased situational awareness, and safer roads for drivers, first responders, and everyone around them.
